McKinney Falls State Park

If you're looking for a bit more wilderness on your run, you only need to travel a short distance south of downtown Austin to McKinney Falls State Park. There is a fee to enter the park but it is worth it to witness the unique rock landscapes and waterfalls. There are two main loop trails, the paved but pretty Onion Creek Trail and the single track Homestead Trail. You can only access the Homestead Trail by crossing Onion Creek so you may not be able to reach it if the water levels are high. This route is great for beginner trail runners as the loops are not too hilly. After your run, cool off in the creek and stick around for a picnic.
