Betasso Preserve

For a quick and easy trail run close to Boulder, locals flock to Betasso Preserve. This Boulder County treasure lives at the intersection of Boulder Canyon and Four Mile Canyon. Trailhead parking is accessed off of Sugarloaf Road where you will also find restroom facilities. There are two short loop trails, each about 3 miles with a connector trail between. If added together you can run about 7 miles total or you can do repeats of the Canyon Loop for a nice tempo run. This park is extremely popular with mountain bikers, mainly due to the smooth buffed out single-track trails. However, bikes are not allowed on the trails on Wednesdays and Saturdays. If you can’t plan your run on these days then it is wise to run in the opposite direction of the bike traffic so you can see cyclists approaching you. As posted on the trails, bikes must ride counterclockwise on the Canyon Loop and clockwise on the Benjamin Loop. Although you probably won’t have the trails to yourself, you will enjoy the refreshing shade of the Douglas fir and Ponderosa pine forests and the relatively easy hills here that total only about 1,000 feet of elevation gain for a 7 mile run.
