High Line Canal

The most popular and longest running path in the metro Denver area is easily the High Line Canal Trail. The 66-mile long canal that runs along this National Landmark Trail was constructed in 1883 to bring irrigation water to farmers from above Waterton Canyon. The canal is still operational today but now it is better known for its multi-use recreational path. Most of the wide, flat High Line Canal Trail is a well-maintained dirt surface, shaded by cottonwood trees.
