Blue Velvet

Mountain Biking Trail

Hard
3.29 mi

One of the best all-around trails in the Whistler Bike Park.

Blue Velvet may just be the best all-around trail in the Whistler Bike Park. While labeled as a jump trail, jumps won't be the only thing you find here—instead, the variety of features found on Blue Velvet demands lap after lap to savor the sheer diversity found this trail provides.

While not a “jump trail” in the same way that Crank It Up and A-Line are jump trails, most of Blue Velvet is definitely a flow line. The berms are perfectly sculpted, offering up ripping corner after ripping corner. In between the berms you will find a few low tabletop jumps. Lower down the mountain, a few big step up jumps _feel_ massive, but actually offer super easy hits that can be rolled by early intermediate riders without an issue.

The flow on Blue Velvet is simply unreal, but this is a given for Whistler. The extra spice found along the way really adds to the dimension of the trail. Around mid-mountain, riders will drop into a massive wooden wallride followed by a long wooden bridge run out—one major wooden feature on a trail that otherwise has very little wood. Lower still, the flow suddenly disappears as riders drop into a rock garden with several formidable rock slab line options. After the rock slabs end, then it’s right back to the flow!

This run down the mountain is also one of the longest, most continuous, and least-interrupted trails (aside from a few ski run crossings), making it easy to navigate and a delightful top-to-bottom experience. Other trails in the Garbanzo Zone feel much more disjointed, with numerous trail intersections and junctions to navigate. While yes, Blue Velvet does have a few junctions, the sheer continuity of this lengthy run provides a delightful downhill rip. Written by Greg Heil
