Woodsy uphill route for all-day access at Pico

Pico Mountain is the under-utilized “other” area of Killington resort, but for backcountry users it’s a popular starting point for ski tours and inbounds fitness laps. Pico offers two designated routes for all-day uphill: a straightforward skin up the center of the resort, plus this remote-feeling trail through the woods. The Glade route begins on blue groomers Lower Pike and C-Slope, but then takes Summit Glade the rest of the way up Pico. Natural snow and uneven terrain makes the climb a lot tougher, but you might appreciate the solitude and variety here compared to the resort’s central runs.

From the top of Pico you have your choice of runs down when the resort is open. During off-hours uphillers are required to descend by the same routes, however. [Pico Mountain uphill]( is the other option in case you aren’t feeling the glades for the downhill. Be sure to review the other policies on Pico’s [Uphill Travel]( page, and get your uphill armband for access. Written by Jesse Weber
