West Buttermilk Uphill
Backcountry Skiing Route
Details
1.34 mi
1,182 ft
Relaxed resort tour on the quieter West side of Buttermilk.
This is one of Buttermilk’s designated uphill routes, marked with orange signs and open during normal operational hours. West Buttermilk is positioned farther away from the town of Aspen, so not as many locals come over here for uphill laps. With a mellow angle on groomed runs, and only about 1000 feet of vertical to the top of West Summit, this uphill route is great for trying out new touring gear or rentals you might have picked up in Aspen. If you’re a regular on the scene, it could just be a change of scenery for your workout.
Uphill at Aspen requires a specific pass, which grants daytime access to this and other routes in the mornings and evenings as well as during normal open hours. See Buttermilk’s [uphill policy]( for more info. Written by Jesse Weber
