Eldora Frontside Uphill

Backcountry Skiing Route

Details

The main route for skinning uphill at Eldora.

As one of the closest ski resorts to Denver, Eldora could be your key to keeping in touring shape all winter. The resort allows skinning during open hours, but only with an uphill pass and only on weekdays. The perk is earning free reign of descents throughout the resort. You can ski any combo of runs back to your starting point, then switch it up for as many laps as you can handle. Uphillers have a couple of options for ascending, each beginning at a different spot but finishing together at the top of the mountain.

The route shown here is Frontside. It begins at the Nordic Center and makes a mellow ascent across green and blue runs to eventually go through glades to the top. You’ll want to really watch out for downhill traffic on the lower mountain, where the route bisects a lot of other trails. Relative peace will hopefully be found on the upper half of the climb, alongside Jolly Jug run and in the trees.

Note that there is also an early-access variation to this route that’s more direct. Before the resort opens on certain days, uphill passholders can use the blue Bonanza trail to cut off the first portion of this ascent. Only one downhill route is allowed during early hours, however, which is Jolly Jug and Sunset back to base. You can see all these policies and more information on Eldora’s [Uphill Access]( page.
