The Makiki Valley Loop
The Makiki Valley Loop Trail is a relaxing and scenic hike on Oahu that takes you through a lush forest with a variety of native plants and birds. The trail is part of the Hawaii Trail Walk system and starts from the Hawaii Nature Center, where you can learn more about the natural and cultural history of the island. The hike is a combination of three trails: Kanealole, Makiki Valley, and Maunalaha. You can choose to go either clockwise or counterclockwise, but most people prefer to go clockwise to tackle the steepest section first. The trail follows the Kanealole stream for a while, then climbs up to a ridge with views of Diamond Head and Honolulu. The trail then descends into Makiki Valley, where you can enjoy the shade and the sounds of nature. The trail crosses several streams and passes by some interesting rock formations before reaching Maunalaha trail, which leads you back to the nature center. The trail is well-maintained and marked, but can be muddy and slippery after rain. Source: Hiking Makiki Valley Loop Trail - Makiki Valley Loop — Oahu Hike. Makiki Valley Trail.
