Skid Marks

Mountain Biking Trail

Extreme
3.8 mi
19 ft
A steep, rocky, switchback-filled trail.

"Peeling off the southern ridge of the mountain is a steep, rocky trail with switchbacks across the top to Gold Hill," writes []( "If you're feeling up to it, hammer the 3,100 feet from the top of the mountain all the way down to Juniper Springs Resort."

Few trails begin from the true summit of Mammoth Mountain, making Skid Marks a notable expert-level descent. And whereas Kamikaze is simply a wide access road, Skid Marks is a steep, loose singletrack all the way from the summit.

Since it begins high on the mountaintop, the terrain is wide-open, rocky, and loose. Lower down, the trail enters a better-constructed bench cut singletrack section… but here the boulders only get more formidable, and the exposure more severe!

The lower segment of the Skid Marks trail isn't quite as intimidating as the initial drop in, earning it a mere single black diamond difficulty rating
