A quiet and scenic XC ride on the northern end of Grapevine Lake.
Knob Hills offers an intermediate trail ride on the northwest side of Lake Grapevine through rolling countryside lined with beautiful summer wildflowers and even some partial views of the lake. It's a great option for those looking for something different than the acclaimed [Northshore Trail]( on the other side of the lake, and the diversity in terrain is sure to impress any type of rider.
Throughout the ride, you can expect a handful of technical lines, including punchy climbs and ripping descents, but the trail also offers its share of gravel, switchbacks, and fast singletrack rolling through the hillsides. The notorious "Goat Killer" climb is an incredibly steep pitch that often takes most riders numerous visits before they can reach the top without hiking. Do you have what it takes?
Parking for Knob Hills is available on the east side of Highway 377, at the western end of the trail. A trail kiosk and gate note the start of the ride, but plan to bring plenty of water since there is none at the trailhead. Parking at the eastern end of the trail at the Cross Timbers trailhead is only open to foot traffic.
As with any lakeside trail in North Texas, these trails are susceptible to flooding after periods of heavy rain. Be mindful of any signage at the trailhead and give the area adequate time to dry after precipitation. As a rule of thumb, if Northshore is closed, Knob Hills will be as well.
