Seat Sandal and St Sunday Crag

Hiking Trail

An excellent walk taking in an unusual combination of hills, and full of interest all the way.

Wainwright states that the popular fell of St Sunday Crag is only a matter of three miles from the road at Dunmail. This is a very interesting walk, showing in detail many excellent views of the fells in the area. St Sunday Crag is a very lovely fell with good views. Well recomended!

The summit of Seat Sandal. By using a newer path than the one in Wainwrights book 1, a direct climb up the front of the fell is a good test of fitness! The quick descent down to the tarn opens up a whole new world of routes available. After an interesting and straightforward climb a ridge is gained with Fairfield up to the right and St Sunday Crag to the left. This is a grand summit, worthy of a good inspection and a lunch stop to see the view. This section alongside the tarn to the descent down raise beck can be quite wet but without doubt it is a quick way down.
