A steep open glade.
A steep open glade, False Summit starts just before the first Southback gate. Access by hiking the Throne until you reach the first flat spot. False Summit starts here. A few small alpine firs dot the upper slope early season. This slope quickly becomes less steep. Watch for the cedar bench a third of the way down, which is steep and often rocky and might require mandatory air. Veer to the right or left above the trees to avoid this area. Written by Kim Kircher
