This is one of the best lines in Silver Basin, starting in an open face, funneling through a wide and shallow couloir and opening again to the lower basin.
This fun line, also known as Crazy 8s or simply Divider Chute (is it divides the upper and lower fields of SE Right), can be tricky to find. The surest way to find it is by hiking Silver King (see description for "The King"). Powder 8s is the first top to bottom couloir on the skier's right of the summit on the Silver Basin side of the peak. For those familiar with the traverse behind the King, leave the traverse and enter Powder 8s at the top. Once at the top, the route is straightforward. This run hardly avalanches due to its shallow angle and thus is almost always laden with snow. This is a great first run to hit after a storm. Advanced intermediates willing to put in the effort to reach the Southback terrain will enjoy this run. Written by Kim Kircher
