South Face of Mont Fort travelling past the legendary Bec des Rosses

This line is the longest run both in distance and vertical in the 4 Valleys. In the right conditions, the skiing down the South Face of Mont Fort is excellent and includes a journey past the legendary Bec des Rosses. You can re-join the ski resort here or continue down, past La Chaux all the way to Le Chable if conditions allow. From the Mont-Fort lift station, follow the piste and stay left to join the South ridge of Mont-Fort. Cross over the ridge on to the South face and follow a logical line down the South Face. The face gets a lot of sun and so you should be sure about snow conditions before setting off. Often hard and icy in the early morning and dangerous on a hot afternoon. At the bottom of the face, head right and head towards the Col de la Chaux. Climb up to reach the col. From the col ski the valley towards La Chaux staying left under the Bec des Rosses - warning: avalanche risk. Be sure to stop to take in the view of this amazing face. Stay high and left to find the upper entrance to Barry's bowl and enjoy the good skiing down the North facing slopes. From here you can cut back to La Chaux or ski down across the moraine to join the off piste lines down from La Chaux to Le Chable - but be sure there is sufficient snow cover!
