A sunny line, recommended in Spring
This route is only possible with an huge amount of snow over the winter, because at the beginning you need to go over the glacier and the risk of falling into a crevasse exists. The route is on a south facing slope and can also be done as a firm ride in Spring. You need to take the Olperer T-Bar to the top then follow piste number 9 until the hill gets a bit steeper. Here you must stay on the right side now and ski to the left, where you can see some rocks reaching out of the ice. In between these small hills is an ice field you need to go over to reach the hill behind down to the Schlegeis chairlift. When you enter the hill then you should stay more on the left and go in direction of the slope you see from up here, because on the right there are a lot of cliffs you can't go over. You will notice that the hill gets a bit more flat on the left and when you have passed the cliffs on the right you can follow the hill down to the bottom and head to the Schlegeis chairlift for the next run. This route is really nice with firm snow in spring, when it's sunny. It's better not to go there in the early Winter, because of the rocks and the crevasses. You are on a glacier so make sure you are equipped, prepared and have practised crevasse rescue, however unlikely you think falling in a crevasse is- it is possible! A minimum would be axe, crampons, an ice screw, a 30m rope, prussiks, several screwgates, a pulley and a couple of slings. A more modern simple solution might be a Petzl RAD system. If you have any doubts about this ski with an IFMGA Mountain Guide. Written by Martin Loinger
