A favorite backcountry zone among locals.
The Butt Crack is a long drainage that drops into Smugglers Notch. While it’s not well known to the general public, locals will tell you it’s the place to be on a powder day. Butt Crack begins at the top of Sunny Spruce. Take West Run, after you round the bend at the very top, look for an entrance to skiers right. Butt Crack is a long drainage with opportunities for natural glade skiing. It’s fairly straightforward until you get to the bottom, you may have to cross a small riverbed to get back to the Notch Road. From there you can ski/skate back to the parking lot.
