Kirner's Cornice (aka A-Basin Saddle)

Backcountry Skiing Route

This open run drops into a wide bowl

Named for the cornice that often forms here, this run starts steep with a few rocks to navigate. Once through the first few turns, this slope opens up below Sasquatch Rock into an open bowl. Watch for chunks of cornice here. Access from either Southback gate along the Throne ridge bootpack. Traverse around the back of the Throne to Avalanche Basin (A-Basin). Kirner's Cornice is the last run into A-Basin before either hiking to the King summit or traversing around the back of the King to Silver Basin. Written by Kim Kircher
