A late season ski tour snowboarding two great lines
This route is two different ski tours put together into a single long day. First the Northeast Bowl of Nerotinden is an aesthetic and sheltered line that is committing, steep and complex. The North chute of Cahcevahnjunni is yet another aesthetic and steep line where both are based out of the Camp Tamok area. With both lines being north facing these are especially good when in powder condition and late night/early morning light.
Starting off at Camp Tamok parking lot follow the summer road until you arrive at a spot where the road splits. Make sure to head lookers right going over a bridge and start climbing west towards the North Bowl of Nerotinden. Once you make it to the base of said valley go lookers left to the ridge and with a few well placed kick turns (in powder) or just crampon up the face. Before long you will reach the top of the north ridge and keep following a beautiful and scenic ridge towards the summit. About 1/2 up the last ridge you will reach a rock outcrop where it makes more sense to drop a few meters to the lookers right before arriving up top.
Standing on top of Nerotinden the Northeast bowl is right under your feet and looks stunningly beautiful. Dropping in the slope seems mellow but quick ramps up and gets steep as you make your way through the first rock band. After that head a bit skiers right and with a little bit of looking you will find a small open spot to get into the lower basin. Being passed both cruxes the valley is quite flat so if snowboarding it is best to just do a long traverse until you exit the North Bowl.
We decided to climb Cahcevahnjunni via a route I had been scoping out so instead of the standard way we traversed over to the Finndalen Valley. Make sure to stay on the lookers left side of the creek as you slowly gain elevation in the flats. Once you look across the valley at a low col between point 1319 and Doppartinden it is time to start climbing the South slopes. This route starts off steep where we chose to crampon before arriving in an open upper bowl. The moment we were there we switched to skinning and made our way all the way to the top where the entrance to Cahcevahnjunni was a few meters to the west.
Being able to see down Cahcevahnjunni it is a great and straightforward run all the way into the valley. Once there just head out of the valley and to the skiers right of the main creek. Before long you will arrive back on the summer road and follow it down valley and back to Camp Tamok.
Both of these runs are great on their own but even better to ride in a single tour. This alternative route up Cahcevahnjunni is a bit longer but also in my opinion a bit easier to access the line. The only problem is you will only know the ski conditions once dropping in. The question seems to be if I would do this again and the answer is yes.
