One of Hurricane's newest trails offers fantastic mesa top riding on non-technical trail.
Wire Mesa is one of the newest trails in the Hurricane region, recently completed in 2016. While many sections of Wire Mesa's nearby grandfather trail, Gooseberry Mesa, are renowned for their technicality, the trails found on Wire Mesa are much more approachable and intermediate-friendly.
On Wire Mesa, you'll find "7 miles of purpose-built singletrack trail [winding] along the rim and [diving] into the junipers on the top of a relatively flat but intensely scenic mesa," according to []( This intermediate-friendly singletrack features smooth dirt trail with small sections of slickrock cropping up at random intervals. Some sections of the trail run close to the rim of the mesa, providing stunning views into nearby Zion National Park.
Wire Mesa is a two-way trail, so whichever way you ride it, expect to encounter oncoming trail traffic. Multiple sources note that the trail feels dramatically different depending on which way you choose to ride it, so if you have the legs, you could easily pedal the loop once, and then turn around and ride it again in the opposite direction.
If you handle Wire Mesa with little difficulty, head on over to Gooseberry Mesa for a burlier slickrock challenge! Written by Greg Heil
