Crystal Forest

Hiking Trail

Easy
0.88 mi
48 ft
One of the best places to see petrified wood in the national park.

"Named for the presence of beautiful crystals that can be found in the petrified logs, this trail offers one of the best opportunities to experience the petrified wood deposits," writes the [NPS]( At almost a mile long, you'll also get a little more distance to stretch your legs on this trail, compared to others in the national park.

The trail itself is a mostly-flat paved path that just about anyone can traverse. The only potential challenge is the intense heat if you go in the middle of the summer. Be sure to utilize the one shade shelter in the middle of the loop if you get too hot.

Please note that, as with all national parks, removal of any natural objects—especially petrified wood—is highly illegal. If you see anybody removing any resources, contact the park rangers at (928) 524-6228 immediately. Written by Greg Heil
