Hike past the famous Riffelsee to the Gornergrat Observatory
Many pictures of the Matterhorn have been taken from the Riffelsee lake, especially at sunrise, and it is worth stopping here for the view. The scree-style rock on some of the hills on the way up can be a little loose, especially when damp. When you arrive at the top of the Gornergrat, you have views across the top of the glacial valley below to your right, and the peaks of Breithorn, Kastor, Pollux, Lyskamm and the Monte Rosa.
