Rifugio Città di Mantova, by Via Ferrata: the refuge for ascensions in Monte Rosa
Refuges Mantova and Gnifetti are close by at the very end of Lys Glacier. Those refuges are perfect for all the alpine excursions in Monte Rosa. Food and accommodation are really good in both the refuges and you will receive a warm welcome!! In order to reach the refuges you can follow 3 routes - from Indren go to your left without losing or gaining altitude you will pass across a big rock cliff and then climbing flat slopes you will arrive at Mantova. Skin up a bit more and you will arrive at Capanna Gnifetti - From Indren instead of passing the rock cliff head for it, there is a via ferrata. This will bring you a little bit higher than the Mantova hut and few meters under Gnifetti - from Indren head to the couloirs that you can easily see on the right of the rocky cliff. Start climbing up the left one, you will reach a point a few meters above the exit of the via ferrata. Crampons and 30m rope are required for the couloir and the via ferrata!!
