Day 2: Day Tour up the Hinter Schwarzenjoch from the Martin Busch Hut.
Depending on the weather and fitness you could either do a big day up the peak of Similaun, which would lead to a smaller day the following day, or a slightly shorter day, over a high col, the Hinter Schwarzenjoch, which is the described and recommended tour.
From the hut cross the bridge to the W then double back to the E, then following the long Marzell glacier upwards, swinging out R in ascent at about 2800m to avoid a band of crevasses, then back left, heading E on gentler glacial slopes that lead slowly to the Hinterer Schwarzenjoch col at 3393m.
There is a beautiful shady cold snow descent the far side on the Schalf glacier that leads you down to the NE then N onto the valley floor, which swings you round to the L, bringing you back to the hut. Written by Charlie Boscoe
