Henrhyd Falls and Nant Llech

Hiking Trail

A challenging and scenic hike to South Wales' highest waterfall

Henrhyd Falls, just north of Swansea in South Wales, is the highest waterfall in the Brecon Beacons National Park and provides a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. The hike to the falls can be steep and rocky, but the view from the top is well worth the effort.

Nant Llech meanwhile is a narrow, steep-sided valley located near the waterfall and is also a popular hiking destination. The trail can be slippery and challenging, but offers a peaceful and serene experience surrounded by nature.

Combining the 2 trails provides an exceptional hike which provides a stark contrast to some of the more mountainous and adventurous options in the region. If you want to check out those tougher hikes then we've got you covered here -

The hike begins from a National Trust carpark just to the north of Coelbren village, and Henrhyd Falls is the first landmark on the trip. Having admired them and snapped a few photos, make the scenic stroll along Nant Llech to reach the River Tawe. Soak in the peaceful ambience and then retrace your steps along Nant Llech back to the carpark. The trip along Nant Llech is gorgeous, with thick alternating with more open areas and the whole ambience being wonderfully peaceful, and the River Tawe is an interesting feature which flows down to Swansea and out into the Bristol channel.

Suffice to say that if you enjoy water features, quiet paths and a bit of historical interest, this is the hike for you! Written by Charlie Boscoe
