Everest Base Camp Trek: Lobuche to Gorak Shep
Hiking Trail
Hard
2.71 mi
1,013 ft
Day 6: A final push up to the highest overnight stop on the trek.
Go north-northeast from Lobuche on a good path which quickly begins to climb up, down and around the various lumps of glacial moraine. The path is well established but narrow in places and can be busy with human and yak traffic going both up and down.
2.5 hours after leaving Lobuche you will arrive in Gorak Shep, the final settlement before base camp. Whatever you do, move slowly here and drink plenty of water - being above 5000 metres seems to have a big effect on most trekkers and most people will really feel the altitude up here.
There's plenty of nice, quiet spots from where you can enjoy the view and soak in the ambience so a (slow) evening walk around the village is highly recommended.
