An aesthetic couloir descending towards Loch Avon
After utilising the lift system to get to the Ptarmigan restaurant, ascend to the summit of cairngorm before skiing off in a south/south-westerly aspect to the top of Stag Rocks. A close neighbour of Y Gully, Diagonal is an aesthetic couloir descending almost to the western edge of Loch Avon and - like its partner- can be difficult to locate in flat light so come prepared. The gully descends on a (diagonal) line on a south/south-easterly direction and is steep/often corniced at the top though the skier's right side is a little mellower. Later in the season you can enjoy “Scandinavian style” skiing down to the shores of Loch Avon below before skinning/hiking out of the basin into Coire Domhain.
