The Triathlon will take you round some of the most beautiful and challenging places in the Ribble Valley. If you have a love of rolling country lanes, sneaky challenging climbs and views to die for then Clitheroe Triathlon is the event for you. Competitors can sign up as a solo entrant or you can enter as a relay team of 3 and choose a discipline each.
The bike route takes place on rural country lanes, is a scenic 18 miles in length and is made up of only 1 loop. The loop is a challenging route weaving through the glorious countryside of Bashall Eaves before you return to back to transition. It sounds nice enough but we have hidden a little snare along the route in the guise of Birdy Brow. It is a short but sharp little beast and will try to zap any strength you might have out of your legs. If you survive and make it to the top you will be rewarded with a nice downhill ride back to the transition area.
Your bike must be roadworthy and you must wear a recognised cycle helmet to take part in the event. The event is non-drafting (you cannot ride directly behind another competitor to shelter from the wind) and you must not ride 2 abreast on the road. The road is not closed to traffic and so you must follow the Highway Code at all times, riding responsibly.
The route is adequately signed throughout to guide you and there will be marshals at critical locations. The marshals cannot stop traffic and will not say if it is ‘clear to go’ so you must be responsible for your own safety and check for traffic.
