Cycling Route
Details
263.23 km
4,043 m
Pro Hours Start - meet up 9:30 am and starting 10am latest in Anglesea - we roll down to Lorne and climb the serene Erskine Falls Road.
Stopping for Lunch either in Lorne after descent, otherwise will continue to roll through to Apollo Bay! Skenes Creek Road is another amazing climb, but around 10km after the main Skenes climb, will head into the lush Beech Forrest route, where it will feel like you're riding through a tropical forest with rapid temperature drops / rises...
We'll do an anti-clock wise loop around heading through Lavers Hill and returning to Apollo Bay for Dinner.
At around 6:30 - 7pm will start the amazing extra cool part of the ride, rolling back @ night on the Great Ocean Road. We've attempted this roll back from Apollo Bay, as riding at night along the GOC, would have to be one of the most amazing, tranquil experiences, with little car traffic heading with us to Lorne / Anglesea.
(Please note, i encourage only very strong, endurance riders to attempt this Long Version!)
There is also a medium alternate version, starting in Lorne with no Erskine’s Climb @ 170km's approx still with an amazing Twilight roll back to Lorne, and finally a short 110km version without the night ride option – doing the cool loop from Apollo Bay back around again, through Beech Forrest and Lavers Hill!
The idea is that the long crew pickup and drop off the medium and short version crews, so no one will be left riding on their own or in very tiny groups...
