2004 RTA Big Ride Day 7 Newcastle to Bateau Bay

The previous two days I didn't ride. On Day 5 we were still stuck in Buladelah because the roads were still closed because of flooding. We spent the day in the Buladelah Hotel, and stayed again that night in the shed at the RTA maintenance depot. On the following day riders were being bussed to Raymond Terrace to get a short ride in to the scheduled camp at Wickham Park at Newcastle, however as I had a scheduled talk to give at Booral Public School I went in the RTA minibus with the rest of the RTA team to the school, and from there we were driven to the Newcastle campsite. So here on Day 7 we finally get back on our bikes again. The route took in the Fernleigh Cycle Track, an old rail trail converted to a cycle track and very picturesque. Lunch was at Blacksmith's Beach near Swansea, and the remainder of the route was mostly highway except for a short section through the Munmorah State Conservation Area where afternoon tea was scheduled.
