Running Route

Start by the pond and pavillion cafe. Take one of the paths on to the canal heading south. Follow the canal away from Victoria park, past mile end park until you get to Limehouse dock, here cross the wooden bridge directly in front of you and trace the outline of the dock (water to your left) you will go up a sight slope, around and then down a set of steps, go left here keeping to the dockside. Go straight you will then take a right at a hut here, cross on of the bridges and go left, at the road (narrow st) go left, follow this road until it comes to an end, traffic turns right but you should take the lane ahead look out for the gold letters Keepier Wharf number 12 (it looks like its private property, but its not) you will join the Thames path. Follow the river, when you get to a park on the river, keep going straight, past a cirular building and round through the lane. You will come out on to a road, cross this road Glamis road) before the red bridge and go left through the enterance to Shadwell basin this is before the red bridge remember. run around the basin with the water on your left, then you get to the otherside of the basin the path is a kind of u turn, after this go straight, through a wooded path to pick up the canal again, keep the water on you left. KEep following the path (low bridge along here) until you get to some steps, go up the steps, go slightly left but pass a pool of water on your right (no swimming). Join the road straight ahead (youll be able to see the river, turn right (wapping high street) then turn left on to St Katherines way, follow this all the way to Tower bridge. (if you take a left before going over the bridge here, its an alternative route, same distance but a good view of the bridge). Touch the bridge and turn around.
Extension - run from the pavilion cafe into the larger half of the park, keeping to the outer path (travelling anticlockwise in relation to the park) when you can see the canal on your right, go trough the gates (by gunmakers lane) and take the path on you right to get on to the canal (left if you are looking at the canal), follow the canal for a long time. When the canal widens and the path turns left, you will go up a slope and join the road, stay on the same side of the road, cross the bridge and immediately turn left back down the slope on to the canal again. turn right on the canal (if looking towards the water) and run with the water on your left. Follow the canal all the way up to Springfields park, you will keep the canal on your left hand side, not crossing any bridges until after hackney marshes where it is the only option, here run with the water on your right sticking to the waterside, you will pass two pubs (second is the Anchor and hope) keep along the path. When the canal path meets a quiet road (under trees) directly in front of you keep going straight, Spring field park will be on your left. THIS is East Londons only hill (possible this isnt true) you can do a loop around this, following any of the paths, then turn back and follow the route back.
On the map you will see the option of a detour around hackney marshes also.
This is a lovely route and mostly very easy to follow, i hope i have made some of the trickier bits easier, please let me know if you require anymore clarity!
