East River Bridges
Running Route
Moderate
12.21 mi

This three bridge adventure is excellent training for the NYC Marathon because it includes the Pulaski and Queensboro bridges which are both part of the marathon course. We’ll start this route in the historic Gantry Plaza State Park. Here you will have spectacular views of midtown Manhattan and you can check out the 1936 Pepsi-Cola billboard and the restored gantries with their “Long Island” signs. The Queensboro (or 59th Street) Bridge boasts a long steady climb and is featured at mile 15 of the marathon course. When you arrive in Manhattan you’ll take 1st Avenue south until E. 37th Street where you can cut back east to the East River Esplanade. This path will take you along the East River all the way down to the Williamsburg Bridge. The Williamsburg Bridge provides a substantial climb and epic views of downtown, Brooklyn and Queens from the elevated walkway. Once you are in Brooklyn, run up Kent Avenue for great views of the river as well as historic buildings and gentrified lofts. Before you can return to Queens you’ll have one last bridge to cross. The Pulaski Bridge is a short, easy hill that falls at the halfway point of the NYC Marathon.
