East River Path & Randall’s Island
Running Route
Easy
10.24 mi
357 ft
The scenic East River Path pathway is more of a local treasure than a showcase for tourists. Although many would agree that the views from the East Side easily rival the West Side. Starting at E. 60th Street, you will get your heart pumping right away as you climb up the ramp to access the pathway. Look up and see if there is a Roosevelt Island Tram crossing overhead. As you head north away from the graceful Queensboro Bridge, you’ll have an up close look at Roosevelt Island. Then Queens, the Triboro (or RFK) Bridge and Randall’s Island will come into view. Hopefully you’ve saved some energy to climb the ramp up to the Wards Island Bridge. This narrow hunk of steel only conveys pedestrians and cyclists and is only open during the daytime and closed completely in the winter. Once you cross the bridge you’ll be on Randall’s Island, home to Icahn Stadium, an IAAF Class 1 certified track and field facility. You will also find miles of waterfront pathways here as well as lots of drinking fountains. Take in the panoramic views of the East River as you circle around the island path.
