White Ranch Park is one of the best training grounds for Denverites preparing for a mountain race. This route has you running above 7,000 feet for over 7 miles. And the trailhead is only 20 miles from downtown Denver. There are several different trails at White Ranch allowing you to run any distance you prefer. You’ll need to come mentally prepared to tackle the beastly Belcher Hill, which boasts 1,700 feet of climbing over 3.8 miles, and is the starting point of this route. After you beat yourself up on this ascent you’ll have a net downhill back to the finish with a few shorter climbs along the way. Don’t forget to pause at the top of Belcher to catch your breath and take in the panoramic views of the plains and the Front Range. The trails at White Ranch vary from rocky single track to buffed out double track and you’ll find a nice mixture of pretty open meadows and shaded pine forests. The park is popular with both mountain bikers and equestrians so be ready to share the trail.
