Almaguin Highlands Double Hundo - Version 1 (Georgian to Algonquin)

Cycling Route

Details
206.22 km
2,203 m
A good day on the bike touring the Almaguin Highlands. A distinct feature of this option is the the proximity to Georgian Bay and the Western edge of Algonquin Park. The description here assumes some local knowledge regarding stop options, but some details are provided.

This version includes some gravel on Chetwynd Road, Northeast of Burk's Falls, near the Loon Lake and Mason Lake roads (the North side of Sand Lake). This would be about 1-2% of the total ride distance - with the exception of any construction areas.

I have ridden this numerous times with 28c Gatorskin tires without incident.

Updated: This version DOES NOT use Hwy 124 all the way into/out of Parry Sound. While this is an option, it was not recommended by local riders. There are future plans to add a pave shoulder to this section - which has not yet been completed. The route used by locals moves to secondary roads at McKellar. This will be a hilly section, so pace accordingly.

Stop options (Ordered - assuming Sprucedale start)

Kirk's Gas in Sprucedale is located on Hwy 518 and tends to stock various packaged bars, snacks and hydration options.

Kearney has a few food truck options and Fetterly's or Canoe Algonquin will have packaged food options and are directly on route.

Be prepared to have all food and drink needed for Kearney to Burk's Falls.

Burk's Falls has multiple food options including Curb Your Appetite (perogie stand) and Kwik Way Convenience just off the route on Main Street (south of the bridge) and the Welcome Centre Northwest of the bridge on Hwy 520.

Magnetawan has a community water pump (seasonal and restricted access may be in effect) and the Grill and Grocery both at the main intersection in town.

There are convenience stores options in Dunchurch, McKellar and McDougall

Parry Sound Bikes and Trysport are both located in Parry Sound with food and service options. There are multiple supply and food stop options in PS.

Orrville Bakery, in Orrville, if open, is a recommended stop for sweets and coffee.

Use at your own risk and ride to your ability. Route not actively inspected or updated.
