Elk Camp Uphill
Backcountry Skiing Route
Details
1.66 mi
1,355 ft
Daytime uphill access from Base Village to Elk Camp at Snowmass.
Snowmass allows uphill from 5am to 10:30pm, including the operational hours of 9am-4:45pm. If you skin up this route while the lifts are turning, you’ll surely confuse a lot of passengers on the gondola overhead, as well as downhill passerby on the runs. You’ll need to be especially wary of traffic, as this uphill follows popular beginner and intermediate runs. The route goes from Base Village up to Elk Camp Restaurant, essentially following the line of the Elk Camp Gondola. It’s a relatively quick skin of about 1300 feet on neatly groomed piste, making an easily accessible workout at any time of the day. You’ll need to know the Snowmass [uphill policy]( and get an uphill pass before you go. Written by Jesse Weber
