Alpincenter to Kaprun via the Alexander Enzinger Path

Hiking Trail

Easy
8.43 mi
366 ft
A stunningly beautiful and very unique high alpine trail.

This is a popular trail for experienced hikers who want to see some of the most majestic parts of the Eastern Alps. The grass-covered mountains are home to marmots, edelweiss, and many more typical alpine fauna. If you come in spring or summer, you have the bonus of experiencing blooming wildflowers and shady green woodlands. The bulk of the Alexander Enzinger Path takes you along a highly exposed narrow ridgeline, so it's advised to hike this trail when weather conditions are perfect, as there is not a patch of shade or shelter for a long stretch of the way. Prepare yourself for many scrambling sections, and, of course, absolutely phenomenal views! From Kaprun, ride up with the glacier cable car to the Alpincenter (2450m). From here, look out for signs for trail number 5, "Alexander Enzinger Weg." The trail is scrambly and exposed until you reach the Glocknerblick. Here there is a fantastic traditional Austrian mountain hut serving warm meals and cold locally brewed beer. You can sit outside and enjoy the views of the Glocknermassiv. From Glocknerblick, follow signs to the Meiskogel Alm, from where you need to jump on trail No. 35, which takes you through woodland, fields, and along a road all the way down to Kaprun center.
