The Best Hiking Trails in Northumberland National Park

One of the easier sections on the Pennine Way, this is day of contrasts. The first section is on open moorland and is usually boggy underfoot as a result. The second half of the day passes through some of the peaceful forests for which this region is well known....

This is a truly classic Pennine Way day and leads you along one of Britain's best known landmarks - Hadrian's Wall. The wall, built to separate the English and the Scots (or, more accurately, "Roman Britannia" and "Caledonia" to use the parlance of the time) and makes for a wonderful feature along which to walk....

The wonderful and wild Cheviot hills provide a fitting climax to a magnificent journey down the spine of England. Save for a couple of emergency shelters (which you should be able to spot on the map) there are no facilities on this route so you have 2 options - try to gun it and do this section in a single day, or break it up by detouring off the route to one of the villages not too far off the trail....
