I started 'commuting' to work on a bike in early 2011 to counter act a Type II Diabetes diagnosis. My longest ride was in Oct. 2011 with a whopping 26.2 miles. We rode Tour de Palm Springs in Feb. 2012 with 40+ winds. What was suppose to be a 50 mile ride for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation became a metric. It was the ammo we needed to push further. In August, we attempted our very first Century at the Cool Breeze in Santa Barbara. In 2013 after riding consistently with the Orange County Wheelmen and training for the Amtrak Century, I probably logged approximately 2500 miles. My goal for 2014 is to ride at least 3000 miles, 7 Centuries, 1 Double Metric, 2 Metrics, the notorious Ride Around the Bear, and countless fun rides in between. Here's to more saddle time. As Greg Lemond said, "It never gets easier, you just go faster." Thank you, God for the air in my lungs, the umph in my legs, and the push in my pedals.
