First time skiing in 30 years

New bike

it's usually not as bad as i anticipate

Made a hard turn and it felt weird and it was my front tire quickly deflating. Stupidly replaced the tube without locating the cause of the first flat and five minutes later lost the second one in a sudden gush of air. No more spares. I can hardly express the level of contempt I feel for myself. It had even occurred to me, just as I was about to inflate the first spare, that I should look for the cause, but emotionally I did not like the idea of backtracking even those reason was whispering over my shoulder that that cost was actually quite little particularly in comparison to the risk. Like a small child I proceeded with my plan and paid the price. I searched in vain for bike stores where I might buy another flat but found none. So my wife also had to pay the price, and I finished my ride with neither the satisfaction of closing out the neighborhood I was nearly finished with nor the intensity of the closing sprint across the city with no need to think about chasing down unridden roads. Ugh.

Not a bad day though. The weather is perfect and I had two nice interactions. Headed up a hard hill at a hospital complex a woman in scrubs smiled hugely at me and yelled something like “What a ride!” Then when I was changing my flat a guy in maybe his late twenties walking his dog called me boss and asked me if I needed a pump.
