Hill Repeats - Sitting at the Beach Would Have Hurt Less

This was a very long day. About 10km longer than I had planned due to various trail closures and overgrowth. I did not at all intend to hike the entirety of Sa Calobra (the climb normally done on a bike). That was a detour due to the planned trail being impassable. Likewise, KM5-7 was a bushwack nightmare, moving at about 1km/hour including climbing up unmarked rock ledges and more. Thankfully the trail got passable after that again. I didn’t see a single person the first 3.5hrs. Then just a handful of people after that. Only 4 cyclists on Sa Calobra, which was mind boggling to me. Usually it’s hundreds to thousands.

I had assumed about a 10hr journey pre-detour, so 12hrs isn’t too bad with all the extra time. I had of course planned for a night contingency, and thus had headlamps and extra battery packs. Plus all the usual first aide stuff and Garmin inReach satellite communicator.

As noted in Strava, this file is from the Suunto Race, and it did super well. Only burned about 40% of the battery despite having everything turned on (navigation, always-on display, mid-tier brightness, dual frequency GPS, etc).

The Polar Vantage V3 literally ended the file due to low battery as I was about to hit stop (from 95%, same settings as Suunto). So, that was handy. But because of that I couldn’t include it in the photo. The Garmin ended with 20% percent and the COROS Pace 3 at 33% (no maps on that one, just navigation).
