cycling is better than horses

I did not want to go out today in the cold and the wind but did anyway and had a nice ride, characterized by fallen trees blocking my path at two separate places and a flat tire that I blew out hitting something on a leaf-covered bike lane next to the parking lot at Security Boulevard (should have stuck to the street). I am happy to report I overcame all three obstacles, hopping over the two logs (and an electrical cable) and repairing the flat with only minimal cursing. Early in today’s ride was the crossing guard at Gwynns Falls who smiled at me after doing her duty and said, “Thank you”, and I responded, “Of course”, but I wish I’d told her that pedestrians should always have the right of way in a city.

This ride took me through Leakin Park again and there are a few annoying segments that are not aligning with GPS and which I am therefore not getting credit for. I’ll repeat my finding that the paved trails there are so nice. I also passed a cave in a hillside that little could have made me approach. There were crowds of birds cawing and the wind was blowing and no one was around and here was this rectangular entrance to a room under a hill, black as night. No thanks. 

Highlights were discovering love’s home, coming across the wildest front yard I’ve seen yet in the city, and chuckling privately at the street name “Athol” (twist your tongue and say…)
