So, after a lovely week off spending time with my partner (and a spot of birdwatching), it was back at work today. It was a reasonably quiet day though, and fortunately it passed by nice and quickly.

Before I knew it I was logging of and getting ready for the first run off the week. It was the standard run up the bypass and back, and I'm pretty sure I could do this with my eyes shut

*well, except for the random traffic that is!*

I kept to the usual zone 2 heart rate stuff, and the session itself passed quickly without anything noteworthy happening


The big news was what occured yesterday... I finally made the decision to sign up to my next Marathon event:

After my first attempt at a Marathon [last year](https://peakd.com/hive-176853/@dannewton/8774872343-9811165120), its now time to try again for my second official Marathon event

*I've previously ran the Marathon 2 other times last year, but they were both technically long training runs*

Last year I completed the Seaside Marathon in 5 hours 10 minutes and will be hoping for a significant improvement this time round. I already know I'm better prepared, in better shape and will learn from my mistakes last time (namely getting excited and starting far too quickly). There's also gonna be no sand on this course compared to the one at Skegness, so that'll help too!

See? Other than entering/leaving the center of town, the route is mostly on small, smooth and flat roads. That should give me a good opportunity to as fast a time as possible.

As it stands, I'm aiming to get at least under the 4 hour mark. To do that I'll need to average at least 5:40 minutes per km and preferably quicker. For some context, todays run averaged at 6:04 minutes. I know I was taking it very easy tonight, and I'll obviously try harder in the race, but I've got some work to do. There is 3 months of course until it starts, and I think thats plenty of time to achieve that.

Having a goal race (and a goal time) means I *now* have a target pace to aim for in my training. I can try to emulate the kind of pace I want to achieve during the race in my training. It's also worth baring in mind that if I was to run at 5:00 min pace, that would equate to a time of 3 hours 30min, which is the time my Garmin watch predicts I can run a marathon in.

>Not sure if I quite believe that, but I'm going give it a go anyway! I can run at that pace for a short while (5km or so), but will need to build up the endurance to be able to run it for a longer duration

*So I guess that means my speedwork session on Wednesday is gonna now be a Tempo session, with a bulk of the run aiming for somewhere near 5:00km and 5:30km, and I'll be back with an update on how I got on...*
