Dry weather forecast - put sunscreen on my face in the morning, and put on a thin jacket for a good pacey ride.

Started to get caught by massive hail storms halfway; got so bad I stopped feeling my fingers and toes (& felt violently ill from the hypothermia building up). Eventually passersby guided me to a local pub with a fireplace.

The very nice local people put covers over me and gave me some dry clothes and hot drinks - even some hugs 😂 (“I’ve never seen anyone that cold”). Took 1 hour to feel human again, another hour to get the courage to make it to the first train back into London.
