Can’t overstate the difficulty of today.  The course is tough in the best of conditions, today was the worst. Trails were rivers, so all the climbing felt twice as hard. Add to that a strong persistent wind to suck the body heat out of you, there was no getting comfortable.  Glasses on kept the mud out of my eyes but obviously posed their own drawbacks for visibility, took the glasses off before dropping into Bennett so I could see “better” in between blinking away the chunks of mud from my corneas.  And Bennett, let me tell you, I have been down it many times but I have never been so terrified as this trip.  Brakes barely working, roots and rocks slick as can be, I’m proud I rode the rock snotch but don’t expect any enduro record there- truly glad to just get to the bottom rubber side down.  Up Thrift with a rear brake that was caked with mud and robbing many precious watts, shivering and unable to get the heart rate above 150ish, and one last descent down Black in truly peanut butter conditions.  On the bright side, I doubt anyone will call it a flow trail after today- both climbing it and dropping it has chewed it up something proper.  If all that sounds a bit dramatic, well, ask anyone else- no one finished today feeling anything less than destroyed… like our poor bikes. 

P6or7, don’t know don’t care, rode as well as I could have and major cudos to the top dogs who just keep going at each other, attack after attack- super impressive.
