Our plan to cover almost 130 miles into the Alps was upended, quite literally, when a slick patch of algae on a riverside bike lane made me hit the ground like a ton of bricks. 

Luckily nature’s shock absorber, the human ribcage, took the most of the impact and aside from a few stitches to close up a small hole on my elbow. After 2 hours in a German ER, an X-ray, and a few stitches, (all of which cost  €69 S/O European Healthcare) I’m good to go.  

TBD how the rest of the trip shakes out. Kathy Derrick didn’t raise no quitter but also I don’t ride bikes for a living so when the fun stops, I stop. Plz plz plz send your thoughts, prayers and Venmo’s.
