Challenging point-to-point 1389 km grand randonnée by the Seattle International Randonneurs. Gorgeous route and great support.

Lots of challenges on this ride. We had high temperatures every day, and outrageous temperatures on day 3 (100°F day 2, 114°F day 3, 97°F day 4, 100°F day 5). Day 1 had to be extended to 265 miles due to a critical road closure, making it that much harder to shift sleep schedules up to try to get ahead of the heat. I also had frequent coughing fits as a residual symptom from the week leading up to the event. Talking, heavy breathing, and eating miscellaneous foods had to be executed with great caution, and even then sometimes it didn't turn out well. I'm glad I was able to do the ride, and I'm relieved to finally get a chance to properly recover from everything!

Pleasant mix of solo and group riding. I hung out with James and Jasmine for some of day 1, but mostly I couldn't keep up with them. Ian and Chris became my core group for the ride starting immediately on day 2 and continuing into early day 3. Day 3 was mostly a solo survival endeavor after the morning, but I joined Thai at the volunteer oasis to finish out that day. Phil caught me early on day 4 and we rode the rest of the day together. We had an LSAH crew of Ian, Chris, Cap'n Ende, and John Morris for day 5. I procured 100 water balloons and launched them at riding companions to keep them cool for the final 75 miles of the ride.
