Heat, small teams, and a hard course with a technical downhill before the finish. The plan was to make an early break solo or maybe with someone else. This way I can climb and descend at my own pace and my mates can rest in the peloton. It was us, and Team Acelvakond who had around 4-5 people (but not from the same age group so it was unlikely that different age group riders would do teamwork). The rest had 1 or 2 riders per team, so it was convenient to go for a break as the possibility for a structured chase was low(er).

At the start, I had to rethink as I was last to do the first climb during the neutral lead-out, and even after the real start, people were chasing hard the breakaway attempts.

Turning south I had a good position and sent it on the 3% uphill. It was still far from the next hill, so I couldn't lose much here. Only Baglyos (Acelvakond) followed, but we were brought back in less than a minute. Still at this 3% hill, I tried again, same guy followed, but this time we got a gap and it slowly increased. I wasn't happy having him as he rode way over my expectations at our last race, but that's what we have, now I have to commit. We needed a healthy gap to survive the hills at the front as the peloton charged up the hill before the finish line, but we stayed away. Our gap got halved to 30s before the sketchy downhill, and after it, a steep climb was still ahead of us, so 30s was a bit concerning. I went first on the DH, high speed, curves in the woods on bad surface. Baglyos got gapped a little but caught me before the climb that we did together, but the chasing group got really close. On the downhill and flat part, the gap went up again, as we were good on the flat, I felt great, and we worked nicely together. Still in the 2nd lap, before the big climb, the gap almost reached 2 mins, but after the hilly part at the 3rd lap, it was again at 60s. At his point I felt that I am stronger here, but I didn't know if I should drop him on the climb and do 40 km solo, or try to make the hills with him and attack 1 lap (20 km) to go. It was a tough decision as we only got info about the gap once in every lap. I decided to go somewhat hard on the climb and see if he can make it through. Unfortunately Baglyos was cramping and got dropped, there was no point waiting for him, so the final 45km was all for me with a gap of a shy 2 minutes. I felt great at lap 4, the speed was the same as lap 3, but for lap 5 (last one) I was getting empty. I drank a lot but still felt thirsty. 3,5 liters (1 gallon for you guys :P ) for 2,5h was far from enough. I don't know what happened at the back but at the start of the last lap, my lead was 6 mins. I was told 5 mins a bit later, in the middle of the lap, which I couldn't believe, and I was still looking back every 30 seconds to see if they were coming or not. The last climb was awful, felt empty, I was cooked, but still won it more than 5 mins. I still have a lot to practice celebrating :) Unlucky, Tamas, my teammate who could have benefited from our tactical advantage got cooked.
After the finish, I had to take my first dope test. It lasts forever. I drank 3 liters but today my kidneys were slower than my legs.
