Stayed with the front group till mile 60. Having already become acquainted with the variety of potholes in Mr. Wilson's collection, I had a particularly violent impact with a lip of pavement I'd failed to notice at an intersection. This caused my handlebars to spin downward within the stem, rendering the bike rideable but uncomfortable. I soon decided to take the shortest route back to start, which was a comedy of errors as Wahoo and Google kept trying to put me on dirt roads.

I cannot blame dropping from the group on the mechanical problem; I was already yo-yoing badly at mile 60, so dropping was inevitable.
