My first Bike MS ride, and my first imperial century ride! Weather was cool, though visibility not so great. Still, I’d take that over hot and beautiful views I’ve seen before.

Talking with everyone in our group tent Friday and Saturday nights was nice. Got to know a lot of people, heard a lot of interesting stories, and met up with some old friends on other teams.

It wasn’t a race, but I had a goal for my first century to come in under 6 hours given the 5,300’ elevation gain and made it. I also took the KOM for the route! Next year I’ll probably stick with the peloton more and socialize - also saving something for day 2.

I started cramping up around mile 90 so I backed off a bit. I had a massage back at the tent which was really nice and helped, but then a ligament in the back of my knee started bothering me again so I decided not to push my luck for day 2. I’ll remember to bring ibuprofen next year, along with ear plugs for the constant bellowing of trains all night.
