A day of  polar opposites. Jeju -> Seogwipo on the west side of Mt. Halla, and Seogi -> Jeju on the East. I lived on Jeju for a year and a half a d never did this ride so wanted to scratch it off - but it nearly ended in disaster.

Set out early to avoid some rain that had been forecast at around 2/3pm. Weather had been hard to predict but it was an absolutely beauty of a morning (although high humidity). 

First climb started at exactly sea level and didnt stop until it reached the highest accessible point by road in Jeju. 1100 meters.  A little daunting to see on the old head unit but was surpised by how (relatively) easy it was. Just very long and only a few sections above 10% but mostly averaging around 2-5. 

Lovely descent into Seogwipo for coffee and some food, still glorious weather.

Then came the second climb. Very quickly felt the difficulty increasing due to fatigue, steeper inclines, and busier traffic. Didnt frel good. 

Then, as I started rhe descent down to Jeju on the other side around 12.30 the heavens opened. Really opened. Like Monsoon season opened. Legitimately rang the police because I didnt think I was gonna be able to make it down. Couldnt see a thing, busy Chuseok traffic, about 20kms of mountain descent. 

Police told me they could only take me and not my bike so that was that - I waited it out and after about 20 minutes it let up a little. What is usually a ripper of a descent turned into a nightmare after hitting a combination of flooding roads, Chuseok traffic and a 10km tail-back due to road works.

All in all pretty happy.
